Dentistry Program overview
During year 1 the initial coursework is focused on morphological sciences and scientific aspects of medicine. You will study human's body structure in macro- and microscopic scale, intricacies of physical and chemical processes that take place in the human body and which are used in patient therapy and diagnostics. Also covered during 1st year will be the scientific method, the ethics and the legal framework.
Year 2 brings the general medicine courses and pre-clinical practice together with the use of patient simulators and phantom heads. You will become proficient in all basic dental techniques used in conservative dentistry, periodontics and pediatric dentistry, in PUMS state-of-the-art Dental Simulation Center, before the clinical part of the studies begins.
During year 3 you will start to work with real patients and you will perform basic preventive and therapeutic procedures, as well as practice patient communication and bedside manner. You will also gain extended knowledge in general medicine and master dental prosthetics in the simulation lab.
Year 4 is when you put the skills gained in simulation into practice. With additional theoretical knowledge and extensive clinical rotations, you will master the skill sets required in the major dental specialties. To conclude the general medicine module, you will have to pass series of examinations.
Year 5 is a practical year during which you will be exposed to dental clinical work in conservative dentistry, pediatric dentistry, surgery, prosthetics and orthodontics. You will also learn about fields of dentistry such as mucosal diseases, geriatric dentistry and maxillofacial surgery. In the final year your professional knowledge acquired during the program will be structured and summarized for the final exams.
