Did you know that eighty-five percent of UK students who applied to study medicine in the British medical school were rejected in 2022?
In 2021, the acceptance rate into medical schools was just over twenty percent so it looks like the situation is not improving according to The Guardian and The Times latest publications. 2023 is going to be one of the hardest years in the UK for A-level students to get a place to study medicine, with several thousand high-achieving applicants left without a place.
The current situation is mainly caused by a demographic surge in the number of 18-year-olds and also because many places at UK medical schools are already allocated to students who were encouraged or paid to defer during the pandemic disruption in the last few years.
According to Medical Schools Council, NHS continues to fill gaps with overseas doctors but NHS is still likely to face huge problems in the next few years with insufficient medical staff to serve ageing UK population.
If you dream to study medicine and you are one of the students rejected to secure the place at a UK medical school, explore alternative routes to get into medicine and study abroad.
